You’ve been considering the benefits and draw backs of having a freelancer to help with your business needs and now you’ve found this page and are wondering if I’d be a good fit for you. Are you wondering what you’ll be dealing with as I’m an unknown? Would you want me in your work place even if only virtually?
Allow me to introduce myself. Not the part of me that showed up at interviews in a jacket, slacks and heels hoping to make an impression but the me that got those same dress slacks dirty while kneeling on the floor of a file room to dig through banker boxes searching for a certain document that will make an impression on a case.
I could give you an amalgamation of my curriculum vitae and every cover letter I’ve ever written but that won’t tell you about being likened to Radar O’Reilly from the sitcom M*A*S*H and how the person making the comment thought I wouldn’t get reference or take it as a compliment. I did.
It also won’t tell you about how I spent weeks scrutinizing bank statements and ledgers only to find that the client had made an embarrassing mistake that could damage their reputation if not immediately corrected.
Know that I am not a niche specialist. I impulsively sought a paralegal certificate and as it turns out, it has been a better career choice than any other contemplated. My life has been serendipitous. I applied to positions not because I had previous experience but because something sounded right. Many of those applications didn’t come to fruition but when they did, I learned and I thrived.
I have done everything from acting as bailiff in DUI court, to negotiating collection settlements, and even drafting interrogatories. Sometimes I have trained and managed retirees and students to work remotely as data scrubbers. Other times, I’ve reviewed edited documents to identify why the template formatting was no longer recognized. If a task needs done, there is no questioning if it is above or below my title. I just do it.
Mind you, if I don’t feel I can perform a task to the highest level and within the needed time frame, I will suggest that a specialist be contacted. Just because I think I can do something, doesn’t mean I’m the right person to do it. I would never want to put your practice in a position where it settles for less than it deserves.
If you are now thinking we might be able to form a business relationship, let’s talk.
